   Withdrawal of French forces (Task Force Sabre) from Burkina Faso
   On 23 January 2023 Burkina Faso demanded the departure of French troops 'within a month'; the Task Force Sabre withdrawal completed in mid-February 2023. French combat presence ends; the legal basis (1961 military-assistance accord) is denounced on 28 February 2023 (see BFA/A4/2023).

   Capt. Traoré coup
   Capt. Ibrahim Traoré ousts Damiba. The junta accuses France of having backed Damiba; on 1–2 October, protesters attack the French embassy in Ouagadougou (tear gas). The clientelist pact remains formally active but begins to crack.

   Lt.-Col. Damiba coup
   Lt.-Col. Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba overthrows President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré. Macron and France condemn the coup alongside ECOWAS, but the clientelist defense/cooperation pact with Paris remains active: Task Force Sabre is not challenged at this point.
